What if a new woman walked into your life while you were still haunted by the woman you lost?
Stunned by the accidental death of her partner, Darcy Morrow can summon little kindness for the beautiful nurse Alis Baker, the woman hired to tend her while she grieves, the woman with the too-blue eyes and a healing touch. But day by day, month by month, as the Colorado winter rages on, Alis' determined gentleness and unwavering compassion chip away at Darcy's frozen heart--even though Alis has a deep sadness of her own, one she carefully hides.
As their unrequited passion builds to something Darcy can no longer ignore, she must make a choice: Will Darcy let Alis into her heart, or will the harsh winter--and a ghost from her past--destroy the possibility of a second chance at love?
What Reviewers Say
5 Stars - "This is an exquisitely written book. I knew from the description that this would be the story of a woman who was grieving for her partner, but I didn't expect to be so engulfed by Darcy's feelings - Natalie Vivien's writing caught me up in the tide of emotion and made me feel exactly what Darcy was feeling. The exploration of Darcy's grief and her journey through it toward acceptance and healing is beautifully paced and never feels rushed or fake. Her relationship with Alis was similarly well done - full of depth and carefully developed. Natalie VIvien did a fantastic job making Catherine (Darcy's deceased partner) and Alis very different people while still both being very well suited to Darcy. Sometimes in stories like these, there's a temptation to make one partner better than the other, or more fleshed out than the other, but Catherine and Alis were both fully formed characters who were perfect for Darcy in their own ways. Combine this with breathtakingly beautiful prose, suspense, and a good helping of librarian appreciation, and you have a recipe for one of my new favorites."
